Understanding The Concept Of Successful Pay Per Click Promoting (Terry Riordan)

May 22, 2010

There are few specific things that should be clarified about what is pay-per=click advertising benefits. This form of advertising is a tactical technique which a vast majority of advertisers pay into so that their ads are chosen based upon the users search. There are many benefits with this form of advertising; in addition to being remunerative for the advertiser, it has the potential of becoming more than an auxiliary income.

This system, which is commonly referred to as PPC is comprised of many different levels; however, the truth is that although it carries many advantages, there are disadvantages just as well. To the untrained and unsuspecting individual, this technique can become very costly, very quickly.

With PPC advertising, the paid listings are located on the right hand side of the search engine followed by two maybe three ads which are located on the top page of the search engine as well. This system could be better understood as an auction for keywords; there is a lower level that ascends to a higher level which is predetermined by the amount that was bid on.

Think about a stand with eight planks on it; at the bottom of the stand; a person just purchased a keyword at fifty cents per click while on the very top of the stand, another person just purchased the same keyword for fifty dollars per click. The person with the highest amount purchased has priority of their ads being ranked higher in addition to being listed at the beginning of the search.

A major component with PPC advertising is relevance; the more relevant the keywords that are being searched for in the ad, the better the chance are of the ad appearing. This system can become quite complicated as it is not a suited fit for everyone. The ultimate objective is to obtain as many inexpensive clicks as possible and to achieve this goal; often times new comers make the mistake of starting their bids at a low cost. This is an obstructive action being that the results will take much longer to produce.

It is also important to understand that the concept of a successful knowledge of what is pay-per=click advertising begins with knowing the terminology. The click through rate (which is known as CTR) is the essential factor in the effectiveness of PPC. Basically, the CTR is the number of clicks the ad secures in contrast with the number of times shown. In effective and successful advertising, one must place their opening bid higher and as the CTR begins to increase, progressively lower the bid. Following this method can assure the path for success; no matter the size of the increment.
