Tips In Developing Websites (Mike Paetzold)

May 14, 2009

Creating web pages and designing it, is very easy especially if you use those ready to use websites. However, creating pages that can frustrate your site visitors is relatively easy to do so. And if this happens, traffic will not reach you and you won't be able to make a sale through your site. Now, to avoid this from happening, take time to read these useful tips.

1. Minimize your links
The problem with some of the site owners, they get obsessed with link exchange to the point that they forget what the site is for and why it was built in the first place. Do not over populate your site with links irrelevant to the site. Do not have the mentality that just because the other linked you to his site, you should do the same. No. Only put links to your site which are of interest to your readers as well as relate to the content of your site. This makes your page helpful.

2. Make sure everything works
Prior to going live with your website and let it exposed to the public. Always make sure that everything works. The pages, the links, the forms, etc must work prior to letting out to the public. This is to help you in creating a sense of credibility to your site as well as making it more efficient to use.

3. Do not hide from your readers
Most often than not, readers would actually want to contact you. So, do not hide from them. Instead, be accessible to them and put your contact details or how you want to be contacted.

4. Make the right links
If you have links to your site, make sure it can be distinguished by the other contents. For example, only underline those words with links. If there's no link to it, do not underline it. For your underlined links, make sure the color is blue as this is the standard color and format for links.

5. Be careful with punctuation marks
Websites really do have articles and contents. That is why, you must be careful with the use of punctuation marks. Do not use more than one exclamation point or question mark to a single sentence. It makes it annoying to look at and is not following the right way of constructing sentences.

When making a website, do not always think that it is easy and that you do not to take care of it. Always take good care of your site and avoid errors from occurring when someone navigates to it. Remember, your website is your image in the on line world, so make the most of it.
