Web Hosting is a business which consists of housing, serving, and maintaining files for one or more websites. More important than the computer space that is provided, web hosting provides a faster Internet connection.
Web Hosting for a single user is more expensive than the one shared by more than one. When doing so, companies have the opportunity to save costs and have a faster internet connection.
Sites like Geocities offer free web hosting, although its features are very basic.
Virtual hosting is in most cases the same as web hosting. However the first one implies some added value like more accountability and users get their own domain and email address. Virtual hosting is generally another term for web hosting. In some cases this service user of a server might create the impression that he is the only user.
When a user pays for Dedicated hosting, he or she are entitled to the exclusive use of the server. Share Hosting on the other hand, is for the use of hundreds of users. Dedicated Hosting is mostly for companies whose webpages have many visitors. Housing is another option for big companies, when using it they rent a physical place where their servers will be.
Some web hosting sites offer a wide range of services. The most basic is file hosting which can accommodate the pages of websites and other files via FTP or a web interface. The files are displayed on the Web as they are and with little processing. Many Internet providers offer this service for free to their customers. Hosting is typically free, advertiser-sponsored, or cheap.
Web hosting is frequently only enough for individual web pages. Having a website requires the use of more complex tools like databases, applications and development platforms like PHP, Java and ASP.NET. Applications like those allow users to create spaces for forums and others.
Some providers create tools in the interface (like a type of Control Panel) that allow you customize the web server and install the scripts and check email from it.
There following are some types of Hosting: Free Hosting. Image Hosting to use with images of different formats, Shared Hosting which is the way many users around the world access servers, and Dedicated Hosting which is typically the most expensive and exclusive one.
