Find A Web Hosting Solution That Fits Your Requirement (Clint Jhonson)

Mar 16, 2009

One of the first things that you need to do after your corporate or individual website has been designed is upload it over the internet so that people from across the world can see it. The internet is where you will get most of your customers and even vendors. You will need a platform for launching your website and this platform is a web hosting solution. There are hundreds and thousands of hosting providers over the internet who will make tempting offers but you need to find a reliable and reputable company who can offer you a great package as well.

If you are selecting a web hosting service provider then there are certain aspects that you need to look out for. You should accept a web hosting solution that is in accordance with your website requirement. You can't go for a hosting package that offers ASP.NET only if you want to host your website in PHP. The first aspect that you need to know is that there are four main categories of web hosting and they are:

1. Virtual or shared hosting,
2. Dedicated server,
3. Collocation server,
4. Reseller hosting.

The most commonly used hosting solutions are the shared or virtual hosting and dedicated hosting server. In shared hosting, you will get space that is a part of a larger server space being shared by several other websites. So if a web host has 200GB of space and is offering 10GB to you then it means that there are 20 more websites that will be sharing the server space. Dedicated hosting is exactly the opposite. You will get your private web hosting server and will enjoy several benefits including high security. The only hitch is that dedicated server space is three fold more expensive than shared servers.

Once you have chosen the type of hosting server you need, you should identify certain other aspects, which are an integral part of the process of finding the best web hosting solution. Some of the aspects to consider include:

Web space: The web space offered will vary from one provider to another, Provider A may offer 100MB of space while Provider B might offer 10GB and yet another provider might offer 5GB. So you need to choose how much space your website will need depending on graphic applications, database, programming and other factors.

Bandwidth: Bandwidth refers to the data that is transferred on a regular basis from your web site. This data might include graphics, banners, images, and text files. If a hosting solution offers you a bandwidth of 8GB-10 GB every month then that will be more than sufficient. But if your website is graphic and animation intensive with databases then you will require a web hosting solution offering more than 10GB of space.

Up time: This stands for the time period during which your website site remained online. The minimum that your hosting provider should offer is 99.7% uptime.

Email accounts: You need to find out the number of free email accounts you are getting with your web hosting package and what will be the size of the mailbox. For example: if your hosting provider offers 5 email accounts with 1GB space then that would be enough for a medium size website. You will also need to verify if you will get a POP3 email address or web mail. Some web hosting solutions offer both.
