What To Do With A Taken Domain (Stephen Grisham, Sr.)

Aug 22, 2010

Branding YOU Incorporated. Branding myself on the Internet and using my personal domain name.com was necessary for my business to expand. When I tried to register SandyMoore.com it was currently in use by a different Sandy Moore; my identity was gone, what could I do now? How could I ever get a good ranking on Google when there are 1,150,000 search results for Sandy Moore? Certainly, I would love to have the #1 rank on Google and this is precisely where I am going. However, I am ranked #2 because I have only used free methods for brand advertisements.

Find a Domain Name First locate a domain registrar; there are a lot of them online from which to make a selection. GoDaddy or Crazy domains is where you can go to find out if the domain name you want is already registered. Type in your desired domain name to find out if it is available. Now you will be shown a few different ideas in case your first preference is currently taken.

I am not suggesting you use any of those names since they probably are not very good choices for branding your business. If you really desire to have a certain name, you can find the domain owner and ask them to sell it to you. Frequently you will discover that the domain name is put on hold or not used anymore because this is a method for the owner to earn money from selling it to anybody that wants to buy it.

I can't say enough about how necessary it is to have your own name brand on the Internet. After everything, everybody knows that people identify with people and not businesses. If you brand yourself with your own domain.com, people will become acquainted with you and believe in you so that they will desire to find out more about you. Initially by way of social networking, email marketing, your blog and the articles you have written pertaining to your business or other activities.

Domain Name Choices Here are several additional choices for domain name branding if someone else has taken your name already. Now, suppose your name is John Smith, naturally johnsmith is currently in use since it is a very common name. You might try a different version of your name. For example you can change it to whoisjohnSmith.com, IamJohnSmith.com, Johnsmithonline.com, JohnSmithsWebsite.com, or use your middle initial JohnWSmith.com. Now you realize that there are a lot of possibilities for you when someone else is already using the domain name that you want.
