How Many Blog Types Can You Name (Mike Gates)

Mar 10, 2010

Nobody knows the answer to that question, just as nobody knows how many words there are on the internet. Although a Google researcher has provided the educated guess of a hundred trillion words in case you are interested. However, even though 13 years ago nobody had ever heard of the word blog, now most of us do and even have our own. Blogs are websites that include the thoughts and feelings of a person; it is very similar to a diary, an online diary or journal.

However, what kind are there? What do writers use them for? And probably more interesting a question, why would you want your own blog? This article will look into a small sample of the kind of blogs out there. It will not be an exhaustive report; you would need a few books to do that theme justice.

Box standard blogs. These are your typical, often boring, diaries, where someone starts to talk and talk about the latest problem they have, the last movie they went to see, how many boyfriends they have and other fascinating subjects.

Niche Blogging. This kind of blogging includes a pretty much infinite number of categories. Think of any hobby or interest someone could possibly have and you can be sure there is one to cater for it. And when I say, any hobby or interest, I am using that expression in the fullest sense. There are rodent racing sites, blond midgets websites, young coders that like star wars blogs, if you can think it there is already somebody talking about it.

Blogging for profit. Blogs can be used to flaunt your latest achievements, write to your parents, share your pictures and make money. In fact, you can make money while you do all of the things we mentioned above. How can you make money by writing about stuff online? I hear you ask. It is quite simple. Get a lot of traffic to your site. Well, the principle is simple, doing it is another matter. There are a lot of methods to increase the number of visitors that go to your blog; we will only discuss one here. Great content. If you write quality material on a subject people care about you will in time get people interested in your site. Once you have traffic to your site you can either sell advertising to others, insert ad word adverts from Google or some other internet marketing company or sell affiliate products.

Blogging for money. A great way to make some extra cash is to start your own money making blog. How does this work? Well you need to get plenty of people to visit your blog regularly. That is easier said than done, but if you can get over that first hurdle you are on the way to your first online business. Once you have visitors you can sell them products and services, whether your own or that of fellow internet marketers, yes, that is what you would be. If you do not like selling, you can always have adverts on your site, if your visitors click on one of these adverts, presto, you make a small profit. The profit is only a few dollar cents, but if you have enough traffic, it all adds up.

Affiliate marketing is simple really. You get paid to help others sell their product. A typical way to make money from affiliate marketing is by writing a post, or page, on a certain product. They generally include a link to the product they are talking about and if someone buys something after pressing on one of your links they get a percentage of what the person bought.

As you see there is no end to the type of blogs that exist or will exist. If you have a skill or an interest you would like to share with the world, blogs might be the way to go.
