The second is more simple in that it only stops websites that the user adds to a list. The family version will use advanced algorithms to screen websites before they load. It is even possible for them to screen search engines before they are loaded.
Another main enterprise for those who create this type of security software is businesses. Typically, businesses install this type of program to prevent unwanted access to important information and to limit websites which might cause a breach in security. Another institution that frequently uses these programs are school administrations, who don't want students surfing the internet for material that is not educational.
Other forms that this can take is the form of an email blocker. This type of software prevents spam from accumulating in your email servers. It can even stop emails from being sent to you in the first place, or can simply send it to a spam folder. Other types analyze emails before they are sent to your server for malware and viruses. It is recommended that if you are being constantly swamped by unwanted emails that you protect your email inbox as emails are a target for those who wish to infect others computers.
It is easy for users to create their own version of this by making changes to their Window's host file. Yet, this is not an effective solution for most as many times websites use multiple addresses and it does not work on all browsers. For most, they must install professional software that will protect them as they continue to use the web.
